Sad Lobster Night

*Please read the previous post as well as this one...it was so funny it made me cry!*

So, it's not a secret that I don't cook all that often. I like to think that when I do cook, it generally tastes pretty good, although I'm really not too gourmet or anything...

Well, my mom gave us these amazing cookbooks that have "Top Secret" recipes of yummy restaurant food. I know she made PF Chang's Mongolian Beef and Orange Peel Chicken the other night, and the Penne Rustica from Macaroni Grille is EXACT. So, I was VERY excited to try out some of these recipes. I love Red Lobster, and their biscuits are so good. I decided I was going to make the Red Lobster Clam Chowder and Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

Noah and I shopped together for groceries last night, and we picked everything out for the soup together. Tonight I made the clam chowder, and was so proud to show off my masterpiece.

Noah took one bite and said, "hmmm, ...(pause)... it tastes kind of clam-my." Needless to say, he decided not to partake any further. He's never not eaten anything I have ever made! He had never had Clam Chowder before, and thought that we were picking out crab last night (not sure what kind of clam soup I was making with crab?). Anyway, he's so cute...he feels so bad, but there is NO way he would make himself eat the clam chowder. He now knows for future reference that he doesn't like Clam Chowder, and to warn people ahead of time.

Looks pretty good doesn't it? I thought so. I added corn because I love corn in my chowder. Anyway, this is why it's Sad Lobster night instead of Red Lobster night. If anyone's hungry, come on over...I have a pot of Clam Chowder, and I'll be eating it all alone :(

Who would have guessed that clam chowder would taste so "clammy"! I promise that I tried to like it but unfortunately this meal made it to my very short list of "Do not eat" items right next to zucchini.

I sure love Giselle for making such a wonderful meal though. What a sweet wife!!

It looks absolutely delicious! I can hardly believe that he wouldn't eat it! The first time I ever made salmon, I buttered it up just like Mom does, sprinkled parsley all over, broiled it, just like I thought Mom did, and it looked like a masterpiece! Max ate one bite and about gagged! Apparently you're not supposed to leave it covered when you cook it or its completley mush, and it really was gross! He continues to bring that episode up all the time, even though I have proved to be a very good cook otherwise.

I really wish I was there, because I would love to gobble that whole pan up! It looks great and you should continue to try new things!

I just had to post another comment so that everyone could see my profile pic. Monkey's just make me laugh!

I have some bad news for Noah, that clam chowder isn't going to taste any better to him tomorrow morning when he eats it for breakfast, and then for lunch, and then tomorrow for dinner until it is gone. I guess you have forgotten the rule about eating all of your food. Seriously, though, Patrice and I made the Tony Roma's potato soup the other night because I used to love it when I worked there, and it was exactly as I remembered it. Perhaps you could make that for Noah.

Perhaps...or I could just stick to the whole 'Cereal for Dinner' model that seems to work best for him. He'll be having cookie crisp for dinner tonight...and for every meal until the 2 new boxes are gone, I'm sure.

I'm so very proud of you, Giselle! I'm only sorry that Noah didn't appreciate your efforts. Part of the joy that comes after all the work of cooking is having someone eat the food who truly appreciates it. My suggestion....invite Anissa and Celeste over for a soup fest and reap the satisfaction from an appreciative audience!!!

Oh man I will be down to help finish it up! I am sorry that your efforts were not appreciated. I can't remember Tim not liking something I made. I will have to ask him but wait the train is already coming down the track and it isn't even time for the news!

No offense, Giselle, but I am with Noah on this. I HATE clam chowder! I can still remember when I was a girl of 6 or 7 we had clam chowder for dinner one night. I carefully ate my entire bowl while picking out the clams. When I was finished I had nothing but a big spoonful of clams left in my bowl. My dad took one look at it and informed me I would not be getting down from the table until those clams were gone. About an hour later I finally chewed, and chewed, and chewed until those disgusting, cold, clammy, clams were gone. I believe that was the last time I ate clam chowder!!!!!

(Gosh, I wonder where my boys get their dinner issues.)

First- Clam chowder- EW! Second- I want to know the name of the cookbook! I guess I'm lucky because Greg always seems to like whatever I make even though I know it's not always sincere. His mom is such a good cook that it's hard to live up to her example in the kitchen. My kids are another story. They totally get their picky-ness from me and aren't afraid to let me know what they don't like. I wish I was strict enough to make them eat everything like Olivia said but sometimes it's just not worth all the drama.

Thanks Olivia! I do have to add one more bit of information in my defense. I am normally not considered to be a "picky" eater. When someone makes zucchini I force myself to eat it and no one would ever know that I didn't like it. It just so happened to be that the clam chowder dinner was made available about an hour before my soccer game and I have made the mistake of eating within the hour of a game and let me tell you: it's not a good thing! When I tasted the clam chowder, I wanted to enjoy it because I knew Giselle was so excited to have made it but I also knew that forcing myself to eat it right before a game was just bad news.

Giselle: Thanks for making the meal and I promise that next time I'll eat whatever it is you make no matter what (as long as it's not too close to an activity that will involve lots of running)

First, I just wanted to say how excited I am for you guys. Boys are great and I think I told you before, but that was Cam's due date too. It is a great time of year to have a baby!
Your soup looks great btw, and you can make it for us any day!

I must admit I'm not a clam eater either, but I love other kinds of chowder. It does look marvelous though.

I have fond memories of eating food that McNeil women have prepared. You guys must have a special "good cook" gene. I'll have to get some tips/recipes sometime.
